Same Story, Three Ways: An Epicurean Exploration

In my Digital Storytelling course, we spent the semester developing and creating three different, yet interconnected, digital stories using video, audio, and a genre of our choice. I chose to focus my projects on the theme of food.

This collection of stories was published in Issue 10.1 of The Journal for Undergraduate Multimedia Projects (JUMP+) [published under Kat Stevenson].

Grandmother Taylor's Beef Stew

This video story explores an old family recipe that was brought from the South to Metro Detroit during the Great Migration.

I interviewed family members, filmed the making of the stew, sourced audio and visual content, wrote the script, recorded narration, and edited the final video story.

Food + Family

The next audio story was more personal. In it, I interview my brother and former in-laws, and then contrast our different cultural experiences with food.

In addition to conducting interviews, I sourced audio content, wrote the script, recorded narration, collaborated with my brother to record original music, and edited the final audio story.

Epicurean Journeys

For my final story, I chose to create an interactive storymap which guided viewers through my experiences with food from an early age through contemporary times.

I used ArcGIS Storymaps to create a mapped journey populated by both original and sourced photographs.
